A relative newcomer to the pro circuit, this is one of the early season ‘must-watch’ races. The Strade Bianchi is contested on the white gravel roads of the Italian region surrounding Siena. Starting in Chianti, the race is approximately 190km long, with some 70km covered on gravel. This format is similar to the Paris-Roubaix, except the it tends to be warmer and dry, with some of the most beautiful scenery to be enjoyed from an armchair. Of course, as part of the race is on gravel there are usually plenty of spills to be had, as well as some great racing. This years event looks to be one of the strongest so far, with Cav, Wiggins, Cancellara, Nibali, Valverde and Peter Sagan amongst others starting the race.
